![]() So wait and amount of toppings aside compared to the competition, this is a good choice for Chicago style pizza. Frankly though, we actually like Giordano's better in part because we can add meatballs into the mix (again our time in Long Island coming through) which Gino's East doesn't offer and because our local Giordano's puts more toppings into the pie (yeah even with the patty sausage in the Gino's East pie). The big patty sausage ensures a good amount of sausage in every bite, but does tend to weigh things down and slump the fillings away from the outer crust once slices start to be removed. Of course, the big difference is Gino's East has a cornmeal crust with gives it a little different flavor and texture, not to mention a lot of crunch. ![]() As the place was empty and there was only one other carryout order in the queue, we're still at a loss to know where the time went on their end - maybe the oven wasn't up to temperature as it was relatively early in the day, but for whatever reason pretty slow even for Chicago style pies.Īnyway, the pizza itself was pretty good. Well, it was still in the oven and indeed was still in the oven for another forty or more minutes. We got to the restaurant (the carryout pickup is behind the place by the way) and went in to get our pie. Based on our experience with our local Giordano's, we figured about 45 minutes should do it. Once the order was placed, we did some other things in the area before heading off to meet our pie. We were happy to see that they don't cut carryout pies unless you ask as they travel much better and stay hotter uncut (of course, you're going to need a serrated knife to slice them when you get them to your destination though). get Giordano's as there just are more of their restaurants around where we live).Īnyway, we placed a carryout order for a medium deep dish pie (not sure if Chicagoans call them pies, but after years on Long Island we picked up the nasty habit of calling all pizzas pies - yeah, we do get a lot of funny looks in some parts of the country, but we're used to it) with green peppers, black and green olives, pepperoni, and patty sausage (basically a big italian sausage patty about the width of the pizza baked under the tomato sauce and cheese). Anyway, we were staying in a nearby hotel to this Gino's East location and wanted to renew our acquaintance with Gino's East pizza as they are now seemingly few and far between (we regularly can. We'll explain to title of the review in a minute.
